Overlooking the beautiful and calm Gramercy Park in one of the most quiet areas of Midtown Manhattan sits a sun-drenched 1,000 ft² apartment. The recent arrival of a new-born has spawned a search for the location of a new bedroom as well as an enclosed office in the already confined living room area. For everyone familiar with New York City apartments, this shall be enough to describe the challenge. Our solution to the task was the insertion of a curved double-wall taking advantage of an underutilized corner of the living room to reclaim space for a precisely tailored office. At the same time, the double-wall creates additional space for a walk-in closet and the delineation of a new bedroom. due to the thoughtful and balanced intervention, the apartment feels even more spacious now than before!
