vienna café | venice biennial proposal

the vienna café proposal was a collaboration with austrian social scientist and architecture sociologist Bernhard böhm.

Our contribution to the Architecture Biennale 2025 examines the question of how artificial intelligence (AI) impacts architecture. The pavilion is conceived as a space for shared discourse and technical experimentation, which provides new (critical) insights into the future of architecture.

In order to approach this question, we suggest to convert the Austrian pavilion into a place of techno-social discourse: the Vienna Café. In the spirit of the Viennese coffee house - as a symbol of public exchange par excellence - visitors of the Austrian pavilion examine the effects of AI on Architecture by contributing their own ai generated imagery to questions regarding the built environment. prompted by bite size tasks created by architects, urban planners and regulators - all experts in the field - visitors will participate in the collective re-imagination of the built public sphere.

the contribution is an experiment with the goal to explore mass participation through design visioning and will ultimately revolve around the question of expertise and participation.
