the spectacle

The Spectacle is the idea, the concept and the design for a spectacular vertical community farm in the center of London. At the same time it is the further development and adaption of the hitherto known vertical farm into an architectural utopia.

Inspired by Guy DeBord’s essay “The Society of the Spectacle”, and tracing the footsteps of Cedric Price’s fun palace, The Spectacle is an educational vertical garden in the form and shape of an amusement park. Focussing on the community aspect and the creation of additional value for the public and the city, the project needed to account London´s historical development, the Britons´ fable for gardening as well as the site´s specific context, e.g. the River Thames or the Lambeth College.
