hermitage 2
This Hermitage is designed as a micro-home. It’s modular structure combines a rigorous design approach around a spherical volume with fast and easy deployment. Hermitage 2 is a deep exploration into solitude, togetherness and the feeling of home in a secluded and possibly hostile environment. It poses the question of how architecture as an intervention into a pristine environment can act as an enhancement, an accessory and supplement. Its modular assembly alludes to temporality and the possibility to relocate the structure without leaving a trace.
Hermitage 2 is derived from the geometric primitive of a sphere. The incessant subdivision and tracing of isometric platonic line-work unfolds into a structure with the ability to combine a sense of spirituality with the feeling of home. The design of the outer shell, the materiality of the structure, the interior finishes, the location of the project, and ultimately the play with light fuse into a blissful experience in absence of the need for exuberance.
